The LOWCARB (is it) FRAUD Files - Gary Taubes

If low carb diet work for weightloss (and it does), then why do low carb authors distort, mislead, cherry pick and makes stuff up in their books. This post is designed to serve as a library of these wrongs for Gary Taubes. It's up to you to decide what is going on here.

1. An Open Letter to Gary Taubes

Highlights include:

"That’s four experts for just one article saying you did not relay the reality of what they were telling you, and instead twisted the facts to push your own preconceived narrative."

2.  Interfering with the Kevin Hall NuSI Study after the results of the study did not support his insulin hypothesis of obesity. The details below were tweeted by Kevin Hall.

Further details covered in this article THE COLLAPSE OF A $40 MILLION NUTRITION SCIENCE CRUSADE

3.  Kevin Bass created this excellent thread on Twitter.

Highlights include:

when I was reading GCBC, I was struck with two facts: first, Gary's unparalleled grasp of facts and events, and second, his seamless, systematic misrepresentation of these

4. A review of Good Calories, Bad Calories by Seth here:

Highlights include:

"GCBC is truly one of the most researched and meticulously-referenced nutrition books out there. Unfortunately it’s also heavily biased as well"

"If Taubes is beholden to an ideology over evidence then any interview with a member of the Keys family is wholly unnecessary."

"Nearly every single time I bothered to check a reference made in Good Calories, Bad Calories I found that Taubes had at best taken something out of context or at worst completely misrepresented a study."

A review of The Case Against Sugar by Seth here:

Highlights:

"In short, Taubes claims that the neurobiological effects of sugar were not studied. No one cared. Except several times throughout the same chapter Taubes cites research on the neurobiological effects of sugar, including one 435-page tome published in 1977 by the NIH titled Taste and Development: The Genesis of Sweet Preference that does nothing but dive into the research"

"There is a large body of scientific research on sugar that has been ongoing for as long as the enterprise of science has been around. Taubes even cites some of it himself. Moreover, no nutritionist or dietitian that I know of has ever advocated consuming more sugar or that sugar is healthy or even that sugar is blameless when it comes to rising obesity."

5. Here the excellent Seth shows the The Case Against Sugar is basically Good Calories, Bad Calories. Taubes cant even be bothered to write new stuff and why would he when no one questions it?

6. A series of youtube videos where pretty much every reference made by Taubes in GCBC is checked and turn out to me misleading, wrong etc.  Plant Positive.

7. Carb-Sane The Manhattan Project of Nutrition That Wasn't looks into where some of the NuSi money went (it wasn't science).

Highlights:

8. The EPIC Debate. At a time when Taubes knew the preliminary results from the Hall study (see 2) he appeared in a live debate at the EPIC Fitness Summit. Here is some footage and discussion.
